Adam RollinsThe Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Alaska are collaborating to tap into the state’s natural resource potential.
The initiative is part of the federal government’s efforts to promote domestic energy development and growth. To leverage Alaska’s wealth of resources, the agency and state are executing several actions aligned with Executive Order 14153 and Secretary’s Order 3422.
The Executive Order enables the BLM to invest in opportunities centered around accessing and sourcing abundant natural resources in Alaska. These resources include energy, minerals, timber and seafood, among others.
Planned actions to access the resources include:
- Reopening up to 82% of the 23-million-acre National Petroleum Reserve for leasing and energy development opportunities.
- Reinstating a program making the 1.56-million-acre Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge available for oil and gas leasing.
- Revoking withdrawals along the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Corridor and Dalton Highway to put the Ambler Road and Alaska Liquefied Natural Gas Pipeline projects back on track.
These decisions are intended to promote leasing, exploration and energy development.
