Daviess County nears construction on new public safety facility

January 12, 2026

Officials with Daviess County in Kentucky are nearing the end of the design phase for new public safety facility. Construction is expected to begin later this year, following the procurement of a construction contractor.

The building will expand the county’s emergency services footprint, increasing response times for fire, medical and police departments. The facility – located near the Western Kentucky University in Owensboro campus – will house:

  • A third fire station.
  • The patrol division for the Sheriff’s Office.
  • Backup 911 dispatch.
  • An emergency operations center (EOC).
  • Offices for Emergency Management.

To further support emergency services, the facility will come equipped with holding cells, an interview room and an evidence storage locker. A 190-foot radio tower is a prominent design feature to provide secure, reliable communication for all departments.

The county has ensured the building’s layout is rated and prepared for inclement weather and other extreme events. The facility will double as a tornado-resistant storm shelter, aligning with FEMA and ICC 500 standards.
