The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is seeking to sell three parcels of land for redevelopment along one of its busiest corridors. Responses to the Request for Proposals (RFP) are due by Feb. 25, 2026.
The chosen sites – located in the Lakeview neighborhood – were acquired by CTA as part of the Red and Purple Modernization (RPM) Phase One Project. The first phase of the RPM project replaced an antiquated rail junction with a modern rail bypass and rebuilt elevated track structures, bringing a new level of reliable transit options to the local community.
With project construction substantially completed, the CTA is seeking to advance transit-oriented development (TOD) initiatives in the area based on a 2018 plan and redevelopment vision. The plan featured a number of guiding principles aligning with community needs and expectations, including:
- Encouraging cultural, generational, economic and family composition diversity.
- Seeking commercial, retail and civic uses that encourage local vitality.
- Capitalizing on transit proximity.
- Prioritizing the quality and scale of future neighborhood development.
- Pursuing environmentally sustainable and economically viable development.
- Improving the neighborhood.
- Seeking to provide affordable housing options.
The three RFPs offer a unique opportunity to embrace mixed-use TOD that will leave a positive impact on the local community, including the addition of affordable housing. The sites featured in the RFPs are as follows:
- Southeast corner of W. Newport Ave. & N. Clark St.; officially portions of 3401-3427 N. Clark St. and 947-949 W. Newport Ave. This parcel includes the historic Vautravers Building, which was moved 30 feet west to allow the CTA to completely reconstruct and straighten century-old Red and Purple Line track structures.
- Southwest corner of W. Roscoe St. & N. Clark St.; officially portions of 3366-3368 N. Clark St. and 947-955 W. Roscoe St.
- Frontage along N. Clark St.; officially portions of 3330-3348 N. Clark St.
