Celina, Texas, voters greenlight $2.3B school building project

May 19, 2025

The Celina Independent School District (CISD) will move forward with a historic $2.3 billion investment in a slate of new school campuses and improvements to existing facilities. Voters approved the bond measure May 3.

With funding secured, the district will start construction on a new high school, two middle schools, seven elementary schools and an early childhood facility. The campuses will have a combined capacity for 12,000 students. They will be designed with ample extracurricular space to accommodate school programming: STEAM, fine arts, recreational facilities and collaborative, flexible learning areas.

CISD also plans to dedicate a portion of the funds to renovating existing campuses, prioritizing Celina High School. Improvements will include renovating classrooms, halls, flooring, food services and co-curricular spaces accommodating Class 6A high school programs. All other district campuses will receive general updates.

The construction of an operations center to centralize programming is now in the works, providing critical support for the district’s maintenance requirements. The district will buy new buses, vehicles and a band trailer to support transportation and expand the fleet, meeting demand as enrollment increases. Plans also account for adding more storage for technology resources.

CISD will build a safety command center within a district facility to enhance security and oversee the protection of the student body, faculty and staff. This work will be supplemented with general improvements to safety and security across all campuses and the purchase of emergency response equipment.

The final measure approved by voters will enhance available technology devices and infrastructure across the district. Plans include upgrading fiber infrastructure, buying audio and visual equipment, upgrading the telephone system, creating a unified communication system, updating the CISD data center and procuring devices for students.
