The projects are a part of the state’s Moving Florida Forward Infrastructure Initiative, a $68 billion five-year plan to capitalize on critical transportation infrastructure projects across the state.
Western North Carolina was especially hard-hit, with significant damage to roadways from flash flooding, landslides, road washouts and bridge collapses.
The funding represents the largest investment in American transportation infrastructure since the construction of the interstate highway system in the 1950s and 1960s.
