The city of Atlanta is undertaking an $82 million project to reconstruct 1.25 miles of Lenox Road into a Complete Street designed to accommodate and protect pedestrians. While the first phase is already underway, construction on Phases 2 and 3 is expected to begin in 2027.
The design phase for the second and third phases is already underway. The completed project will significantly enhance multimodal mobility, increasing the area’s walkability and safety for nonmotorized travelers.
Section 2 of the project will revolve around improving pedestrian infrastructure and site aesthetics. The core component of this section will be an enhanced pedestrian boardwalk. The boardwalk will provide safe passage between Peachtree Road and Phipps Boulevard.
The final section will build an expansive elevated pedestrian and bicycle bridge. The 0.62-mile bridge will function as a gateway to the Lenox Road and GA 400 Interchange, improving connectivity and pedestrian safety in the process. The city plans to link the bridge with the upcoming PATH400 greenway near the intersection.
Progress on Phase 1 – the Lenox Boardwalk – is currently underway. The city anticipates finishing construction on the urban linear park later this year. Future phases will require the procurement of contractors to manage construction activities.
