Alamance Community College sets vision for growth with new facilities

October 22, 2025

Alamance Community College (ACC) in North Carolina has unveiled a campus master plan to build facilities and renovate buildings campuswide. The construction timelines for the nearly $77 million in planned projects have not yet been released.

The long-term plan would provide ACC with the capacity and modernized services needed to keep pace with the institution’s student population and programming growth. While the college continues to refine the plan, a selection of the notable projects included in the vision include:

  • Building a $32.4 million health sciences building to replace an existing facility.
  • Building an $8.2 million campus facilities building.
  • Developing $14.8 million corporate education/conference center and parking expansion that will be combined with a second $3.1 million new student services center.

The new health sciences building is planned to be a three-story, 48,000-square-foot facility. Once completed, it would house all the college’s health sciences programs. It would significantly expand the dental program by adding up to 18 dental chairs, private rooms and a fully operational dental clinic.

The building would also house the college’s new radiology, respiratory and sonography programs. As part of the project, ACC would renovate more than 31,000-square-feet in the Powell Building, preparing it to be repurposed for other science programs.

A new student services center would replace the existing building after it was deemed inadequate to meet the college’s needs and future demands. The facility would provide additional spaces for collaboration, quiet study and informal connection. Additional features would include building outdoor dining and seating and additional office space. A separate, lower-cost option in consideration would expand the existing center by nearly 6,900 square feet to provide more office and flexible spaces. A third option would build a 20,000-square-foot second-story addition onto the top of the student services center.

To conserve costs, the college plans to build a 26,900-square-foot corporate education/conference center that would be combined with the potential future new student services center. The conference center would provide dedicated event and conference space, enough capacity for up to 200 attendees, roundtable spaces and common areas.

The last project highlighted in the master plan would be the 20,400-square-foot campus facilities building. The structure would consolidate the college’s shipping and receiving, groundskeeping, storage and maintenance under a single roof.

Aside from the capital project featured in the plan, ACC will invest another $4 million to renovate, expand and upgrade infrastructure. These projects would include:

  • Cleaning and recoating building facades.
  • Installing 24 welding booths in the AATC.
  • Relocating the Dental Assisting program to a lower level of the
  • Main Building.
  • Replacing windows that fail to meet current energy efficiency standards.
