The Lincoln County School District (LCSD) in Oregon has passed a $73 million bond referendum to improve essential facilities across all district buildings.
Half of the bond funding will be dedicated to repairing, maintaining and updating schools, ensuring all buildings are up-to-code to nurture better learning environments. Improvements will include replacing or repairing roofs and installing new boiler systems and water heaters. Additional work will involve updating the HVAC, electrical and phone and communications systems.
The district also plans to invest the first half of the allocated funding to make safety, health and security upgrades to campus facilities. Features will include new fire alarm systems, building access control systems and upgraded camera networks. In addition, LCSD will implement ADA upgrades, abate asbestos, install bleachers, build baseball restrooms, repair turf fields and update parking lots.
Among the more ambitious plans supported through the bond will be the construction of 300-seat auditoriums at three high schools. The performing arts centers are estimated to cost $10 million each. The district will also make design, sound and lighting upgrades to two existing theater spaces at Taft 7-12.
To further expand and modernize learning opportunities across all campuses, plans include revitalizing Career and Technical Education program spaces. LCSD will update classroom technology, build field houses, replace turf and make various other improvements to outdoor play structures, track surfaces and playgrounds. Additional work will involve updating cafeterias and remodeling office areas and staircases.
