Utah launches water project database to prioritize state funding

April 29, 2025

Utah has opened the submission window for its Unified Water Infrastructure Plan (UWIP) project database, accepting entries through May 9, 2025. The UWIP, established through HB 280 in 2024, is a centralized system intended to guide state funding for water infrastructure projects.

The Water Development Coordinating Council, created by the legislation, brings together key state agencies—including the Division of Drinking Water, Division of Water Resources and Division of Water Quality—to manage a single database and prioritize water project funding across the state. The council’s goal is to ensure efficient and coordinated use of Utah’s water funds.

Eligible project types include:

  • Drinking water
  • Wastewater
  • Stormwater
  • Secondary water
  • Dams
  • Reservoirs
  • Off-farm agriculture
  • Water reuse

To qualify for future state funding, water-related projects must be submitted to the UWIP database by the May 9 deadline.
