The University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) will spend $396.6 million to build new healthcare centers and clinics, expanding access to lifesaving care.
The funds will support several initiatives designed to better serve the people of El Paso, including the construction of an on-campus burn center. The center will contain two burn operating rooms and inpatient burn care. Additional specialized patient rooms are planned to provide controlled temperatures for patients.
Other facilities across campus will also receive improvements as part of the UMC’s list of projects. These include adding critical care beds, new operating rooms and cardiac catheterization rooms to increase capacity. UMC’s efforts will also improve imaging and laboratory services.
The initiative also includes plans to build a geriatric clinic in Central El Paso and an outpatient clinic in Horizon. Approximately $30 million of the approved amount will help UMC establish the region’s first comprehensive cancer care center, providing critical financial assistance to buy equipment.
Once the cancer center is completed, both UMC and El Paso Children’s will relocate their infusion centers to the new facility. The center will also feature a pharmacy-specific center for cancer medications.
