The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) recently awarded $62 million to seven projects to improve wastewater systems. The projects include expanding facility capacity and upgrading infrastructure, including dams. Earlier this year, the board awarded $132 million to 10 water and wastewater projects, bringing the state total to $194 million.
The city of Pflugerville received the largest amount this year – $30.6 million to expand its central wastewater treatment plant capacity. Plans also call for an influent lift station pump and effluent pump station.
El Paso Water received $28.6 million to provide first-time wastewater service to an unincorporated community and to decommission existing septic systems. Construction is set to begin in spring 2024.
Other awards of note include:
- $24 million to Maverick County to provide first-time wastewater service to multiple areas of the county.
- $18 million to the Lake McQueeney Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 in Guadalupe County for dam improvements.
- $14.3 million to the San Leon Municipal Utility District in Galveston County for wastewater system improvements, including evaluation of gravity sewer mains and potential placement of jointless piping to mitigate inflow from storms.
- 14.2 million to North Alamo Water Supply Corp. in Edinburgh for two projects that will provide first-time service to different subdivisions, including designing and constructing wastewater collection plants.
- $13.8 million to the city of LaPorte for a project to extend the sewer and replace nine sanitary lift stations with a single station.
- $12 million to the Lake Placid Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 for dam improvements.
