The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has allocated $7.9 billion to states to support highway and bridge projects as part of its annual August redistribution. The deadline for states to commit the funding to projects was Sept. 26. The following states have announced plans for the funding:
States receiving the largest funding allocations are:
- California – $717.9 million.
- Texas – $465 million.
- Pennsylvania – $460.5 million.
- New Jersey – $425 million.
- Florida – $425 million.
- New York – $313 million.
New Jersey officials will divide the money between the New Jersey Transit Corp. (NJTransit) and the state’s Department of Transportation. NJTransit projects include replacing six bridges and modernizing and updating several bus stations, garages and a pedestrian tunnel. NJDOT will use the money for pavement preservation, bridge preventative maintenance, and pedestrian safety improvements.
Louisiana plans to use its $210 million to build a roundabout, replace a moveable bridge and to acquire highway right of way.
Rhode Island will receive $60.3 million to complete ongoing bridge rehabilitations, interstate roadway resurfacing repaving, bridge enhancements, bike path preservation and pedestrian projects.
Nevada will receive $46 million to be used on road and bridge projects.
