The Port of Corpus Christi has appointed Kent Britton as its new CEO. He will oversee a significant expansion project which also includes evaluating options for supplying desalinated water to Corpus Christi and other areas of the state.
Britton, who has served as interim CEO since June, said the port’s expansion project will make it the widest and deepest channel on the Gulf Coast. The improvements include lowering the channel from 47-ft to 54-ft and widening it to 530-ft. Cost estimates exceed $600 million, but the long-term economic benefits for the region and the state are expected to be substantial.
Port authorities have also agreed to partner with Corpus Christi officials on acquiring permitting and pre-engineering work to develop a desalination plant on Harbor Island.
