The city of Austin approved a $5.5 billion budget that will include city services and capital projects. The total amount includes $1.4 billion for city operations and services along with a capital budget of $1.6 billion.
Capital projects will include a significant amount for affordable housing and homelessness. A total of $87.2 million is slated to support housing development projects and $80 million has been set aside for homelessness response initiatives. There are allocations for infrastructure projects, including a new pool in Colony Park and plans for new generators in the event of weather emergencies.
Two public libraries – Faulk and Branch – are allocated $15 million for renovations. Colony Park Pool and Givens Pool will receive $10 million for upgrades and repair and the new budget sets aside funding for emergencies and a new domestic violence shelter.
